Monica Maurel was born in Mauritius in 1945. After completing higher studies in English and in Pedagogy in England, she returns to Mauritius in 1968. She works as a teacher, a career guidance counsellor, a human resource manager, before launching her own training company in 1982. From 1997 to 2004, she is the director of a training centre of the sugar industry. Since her retirement, she has been doing voluntary work for Friends in Hope, a non-governmental organisation that provides relief to psychiatric patients and to their families. She defines herself as an amateur writer and a pen-pusher. She is also a translator (French-English and viceversa).
