When Michael Woolman was in junior school he longed each day for school to finish so he could run home and read. Among his favourite books were Treasure Island and Swallows and Amazons, literary books which he read passionately over and over again. As an international educator and headmaster in Hong Kong, New York and London he considered it a duty and a joy to pass his passion for good children’s literature to his students. Accompanying his wife on an assignment to Mauritius he was fascinated by its brief unique history. From this fascination and his passion for encouraging children to savour good stories, Makwa was born.
